I recently saw a poll that was taken after Shaun Suisham missed a 23-yard field goal when the Redskins played the Saints. I was shocked to see that 71% of Americans honestly though that, in a situation like Suisham’s, they could have made a field goal from that distance. That’s about as ridiculous as 80% of Americans saying that they could hit a home run in a round of the home run derby.
Lets get real people, you get one chance to get it over the cross bar. I say that half of that 71% wouldn’t even get the ball off the damn ground. Kicking isn’t as easy as it looks. Not to mention you have to get it over the massive linemen that typically stand 6’4 and above. Realistically, I would say that about 20% couldn’t make it over them.
So, let’s see. I’m not too good with math, but I think that already eliminates about 55.5% of the 71% who think they can kick. We are now left with about 15.5% who have a realistic shot, and that’s excluding missing wide left/right.
Keep dreaming, people.

The poll obviously didn’t say that 71% of americans could make it, it said that 71% of the people watching the game and took the time to vote could make it. I’m inclined to say that 71% of the people watching football and took the time to vote would have enough foot to boot a ball 30 yards long, 12 ft high, and straight, under no pressure of course.
No way. I bet the people that voted were on their couches, drinking Natty and eating chips, and haven’t played a down of football in their lives.
Obviously.. and it doesn’t matter, 71 percent is a lot no matter who took the poll. And if he kicked it straight you would miss because it was from the right hash..
and for a righty that is not an easy kick… enough said.
You guys don’t think you could make a 23 yard FG?
over huge ass linemen.. from the right hash.. and only one try and with a little pressure put on me… no
So if that guy couldn’t kick a 23 yard FG, then we all are just as good as him, cuz if he’s in the NFL then so can we… lol
He’s not in the NFL anymore haha
