A couple weeks ago I smacked you in the mouth with my Time To Shop: Buy Low Candidates and went a perfect 5-5. Well, it’s time to shop again, but this time we are selling high.
Here is a list of players that have performed well during the first quarter of the season or have been stars in the past, but will go downhill fast.
1. Bengals RB Cedric Benson
Benson has had an unbelievable start to the 2009 season and is tied with Steven Jackson for 4th in the league in rushing yards with 367. Benson also has two TD’s and looks like he’s a star. The only problem is, he’s not. He should continue to play good ball this year, but I would advise you to trade him now to someone that thinks he’s really as good as his numbers have shown so far.
2. Bills RB Fred Jackson
Fred Jackson is a monster, but Marshawn Lynch is a beast and he’s back now after a 3 game suspension. Trade Fred Jackson now while he still has some value, but if you wait too long you will be stuck with him.
3. Seahawks RB Julius Jones
Jones is a proven bust each year. If you picked him up off waivers this year or drafted him for some reason, it’s time to cash in. Jones has one score on the ground this year and two through the air, but has averaged just 1.6 scores a year for the last 3 seasons. Don’t be surprised if you see a TD drought from Jones start very soon.
4. Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson
If you have him now, you are probably stuck with him until he has a decent game with a TD. Once that happens, get rid of him. LT is about to take his seat next to Shaun Alexander and Priest Holmes.
5. Patriots QB Tom Brady
I know he’s coming back from the injury and needs time to knock the rust off, but I’m telling you that he will never be the same dominating force of two-three years ago. Many believe it’s just a matter of time, but take a look at Carson Palmer. He’s good, but people don’t look at him the same way as they did before his injury. I think Tom Brady can be called a top 5 QB again eventually, but his #1 QB days are over. Sell him and get yourself a player to fill a hole at another position of yours, along with someone like Matt Ryan. You’ll be better off this way.
6. Ravens QB Joe Flacco
Wow, look at Flacco! His performance so far this season has been amazing. Unfortunately, it won’t last much longer. Flacco is a solid number 2 QB. Remember, this team likes running the ball and are usually known for their defense. This great passing game has been nice early this season, but it’s not going to be around much longer. With that said, trade Flacco and get a better option. You won’t regret it.
7. Jaguars WR Mike Sims-Walker
The fantasy points are stacking for Sims-Walker. This production will begin to slow down soon, though, with David Garrard being the one responsible for getting him the ball. Think of Sims-Walker as more of a high end number 3 WR for the remainder of the season, with an occassional big game.
8. Bills WR Terrell Owens
T.O. is no longer a viable fantasy option. In fact, he is on the verge of being a player worth cutting. Find yourself a trade partner that still thinks Terrell Owens is T.O. and trade him away.
Other candidates: Kurt Warner, Brian Westbrook, Thomas Jones, Dwayne Bowe, Steve Smith(car), Santana Moss.
Whoa whoa how can you sell LT high… he hasn’t done shit this year lol. You aren’t going to get shit for him even if he gets a td.
Great point! I put LT and TO on this list because although they are horrible so far this year, they have name value. If LT can put together a solid game, then you trade him right away. Same goes for TO. The reason why I still call them “Sell High” players, is because they are only going to keep rolling downhill.
Brady shouldn’t be on the list. He’s only going to get better as the season progresses. He won’t put up the numbers he did, but he will still finish in the top 5.
Brady will have a game this year where he throws 4 TD’s, but that doesnt mean I am wrong for putting him on here. If you have him and want to keep him, keep him. I do however think that more and more people will realize he isn’t the Brady of two-three years ago, and when if the owners decide to trade him once they realize that too, they won’t get as much for him. As of right now if you put Brady on the block in your respected leagues, the offers would probably be huge.
I agree that it would be smart to buy Matt Ryan, as the Falcons will be opening up the playbook and stretching the filed vertically now that the run game is struggling.
lol if they roll downhill hren i would just drop their garbage ass.
Benson looks like the real deal.
Adding Tom Brady to this list made a reason to argue, because 5 TD’s in one quarter is pretty much unbelievable.. but then Brady did it and I saw it so it’s believable and amazing.
I still say trade Benson while he’s got the value of a number 1 back, but he will play as a good number 2 back all year.
I also actually changed my mind on LT.. I like him more now as a buy low option. low risk high reward type scenario, however, stay away from him in keeper leagues and dynasty leagues.
I don’t know dude, in that Cincy offense with a real QB, I’m liking Benson. Unlike Chicago when he was trying to run when Not So Sext Rexy was QB, he doesn’t have to deal with opposing defenses stacking the box. I think if you have a chance to get Benson, go get him.
