According to Allen Iverson’s Twitter page, the Memphis Grizzlies have made him an offer, despite GM Chris Wallace’s non confirmation (although he told ESPN they did a day earlier).
However, this deal that’s supposedly in place doesn’t make much sense. Memphis already has an up-and-coming point guard in Mike Conley and another guard in future star O.J. Mayo. The only apparent option is to have A.I. come off the bench like he did with Detroit.
Nonetheless, I’m shocked to see Iverson struggle the way he has in finding a new team. This is a guy who averaged 26.4 PPG only two seasons ago, and would have put up better numbers playing anywhere other than Detroit last year. I believe he still has more left in the tank and shouldn’t be a reserve player just yet.
This guy can help any team out but there has to be a reason why he hasn’t been signed. Only thing I can think is that AI wants to be “the guy” wherever he plays.
