MVP
Albert Pujols – Pujols leads the majors in both home runs and RBIs. He is also hitting .332. He is a freak of nature and is nearly impossible to pitch to. He’s on pace to have his best season ever, that’s scary. Pujols might be the greatest hitter to ever play the game. (Sorry Raul, injury killed ya).
Runner Up
Prince Fielder – Big Prince is leading the way for his first place Brew Crew, smashing 20 homers and driving in 74 which is good for second in the bigs.
Still in it
Hanley Ramirez – Han Ram put on for his city this month driving in 33 RBIs which was good for second behind, well duh, Pujols. In all seriousness though, Hanley is by far the best player on the Marlins, and without him they wouldn’t be 1.5 games out of first. Hitting .341 doesn’t hurt either.
Cy Young
Tim Lincecum – Lincecum is tied for third in the NL in wins (8), he’s second in ERA (2.37) and leads the majors in strikeouts (132). He really is a freak.
Runner Up
Matt Cain – San Fran might have the best one two punch in baseball. Both of these guys always give them a chance to win. Cain is 9-2 with a 2.57 ERA. The strikeout total is what really separates these teammates.
Still in it
Dan Haren – Ok, so he’s 7-5, but his ERA shows he could be 11-1. Haren leads the NL in ERA at 2.19. Now wins aren’t everything because your offense has to hit the ball too. Arizona doesn’t really do that too well.
Don’t forget Javier Vazquez of ATL for the Cy Young He’s pitchin his ass off on a team that can’t score any runs and for that reason he probably won’t be in the mix. He has 130 SO’s. Same with Josh Johnson of the Marlins. For runner up on MVP I like Ryan Braun and Ramirez better than Fielder. Just my opinion, everyone is entitled to one.
Yeah I had Josh Johnson in it last month and he still has potential to be in the race. And Vazquez numbers are great, but the low win total win end up keeping him out of contention (even though it’s not his fault).
