Hang It Up, Brett

favre-2When I think of Brett Favre, I think of a rugged gunslinger who loves the game of football more than most, and sports Wrangler jeans in his spare time. The words “prima donna” don’t come to mind. However, I can’t be too sure anymore.

I’m a big fan of #4, let me get that out of the way. Even when he used to beat up on my beloved Bucs I still respected the man and the way he played the game. After each season I find myself losing more and more of that respect, though, as I’m growing extremely tired of the drama that surrounds him. I can’t even turn on the TV without catching more of the saga.

I lost track of his retirements and emotional goodbye speeches years ago it seems. Although unintentional, as leaving the game forever has obviously been an awfully hard thing for Favre to do, I feel he’s somewhat disrespecting the sport and those involved. He can’t keep playing The Boy Who Cried Wolf and expect to leave behind the same legacy. Especially when you consider a possible return to Minnesota of all places, like they aren’t longtime rivals of Green Bay or anything.

Here’s my message to you, Brett. You’re about to be 40-years-old and just had surgery on your throwing shoulder, go home and spend time with your wife and kids. After that first week, when you’re already bored and antsy, try to join the FOX NFL Sunday crew because those guys sure ass hell have the best job in America. A couple more Wrangler commercials wouldn’t hurt either.
