No Love For H-Town

The Houston Texans get no love. Every year, week in and week out people talk about the AFC South. However, everyone talks about Indy’s passing game, Tennessee’s defense, and Jacksonville’s running game. Even when one of those teams lose they get more press than Houston. For example, Jacksonville went 5-11 last year while Houston went 8-8 and was in the hunt for a Wildcard spot, but people talked more about how Jacksonville had a bad year and was looking to rebound in 2009.

I’d have to say the most press Houston got was when they beat Tennessee 13-12 in December, handing the Titans only their second loss of the season and making the race for the #1 seed in the AFC a little more interesting. But, even that press was more about Tennessee than Houston.

I don’t understand how they are constantly overlooked. After all, the past two years they have been in the hunt for the playoffs. Since their expansion into the league they have the highest average attendance of any team in the AFC South. Also, no matter how good or bad they are, they constantly give fits to their AFC South opponents. I think Houston is a good team, they just seem to get stuck in their own success. Whenever they have a good season it’s not good enough to be in the playoffs, but not bad enough to have a good draft pick.

Everything else aside, I have a feeling they will shock some people in ’09. Everyone should pay attention to them because they are going to be a dangerous team. With Matt Schaub, Steve Slaton, and Andre Johnson leading the offense, Houston will be a fun team to watch. I have a feeling we will be hearing the Texans name a little bit more this season. Look out Indianapolis, Jacksonville, and Tennessee; Houston is on the way.
