In a move that doesn’t make much sense, QB Jeff Garcia is reportedly close to signing a deal with the Oakland Raiders according to NBC Bay Area. Yes it would be a homecoming for Garcia but if I’m not mistaken, didn’t he still consider himself a starter?
Garcia would serve as a backup to former number one pick JaMarcus Russell and provide some much needed guidance for the young QB (77.1 passer rating and 53.8 completion percentage). I just don’t know how teams like the Vikings or Jets didn’t jump on the opportunity.
The 39-year-old Garcia is entering his 11th season in the NFL and Oakland would be his 6th stop.

Ew, why would Garcia want to go there? And more importantly, why would he serve as a backup? He’s much better than Russell. That’s like Matt Leinart starting instead of Kurt Warner.
Russell – 6 year $61 million with $29 million in guarantees. ‘Nough said.
I’m really surprised the Vikings don’t pick him up. They are so close to having the total package with their team. They just need consistancy at the QB position and he could possibly bring that to them. Maybe the asking price is too high. Who knows??
I thought the same exact thing, They don’t need a star, just consistency like you said. He’s a proven winner too.
Well, he just signed a 1 year deal w/ the Raiders.
Garcia will be starting by week 6. Russell will make a good TE someday or maybe he can pitch for the A’s? He has a hell of a good arm. It took him a year to learn the playbook, does that tell you something. I’m sorry Oakland fans but money not well spent.
I said Russell was a bad move from the second they drafted him.
5.2 mil even as a backup ain’t too bad. Garcia will never not try to be a starter though.
